When someone tries to be the hero, you have to sit back and say, "Dude, you're trying too hard." I think heroes are people who don't care to be heroes. You can do heroic deeds, but if all you want is the satisfaction of being hero, then you aren't one. You're just a poser. I totally agree. I think you make a really good point when you comment on how it's funny that Queequeg doesn't strive to be the hero, but he manages to stay calm and collected and save lives when everyone else is in chaos. It's funny to think that the man who's a cannibal and is considered the savage on the boat is the one who is able to forgive easily, and is able to do the right thing in times of turmoil. It makes me wonder what the true definition of a savage is. Looking at Queequeg, one would immediately label him as one, but find it untrue as time went on, since he seems a lot more civilized than most of the other crewmen.
